We sent 5 brave souls out into the fens for a match with the lads and lasses of March and as it had been fishing unbelievably well expected great things well a cold, nearly a frost , night plus sunshine all day didn’t help matters but the weights were still very good with the winner at 25lb and 20lb and 16lb back up weights spread around the match length. Roach , Skimmers and a few Rudd and Perch made up most nets with March weighing 84lb against our 80lb but they had an angler more than us so if you remove their lowest weight, 5lb odd, we won at least that’s how Micks looking at it.

For those who haven’t fished the stretch behind the swimming pool this time of year the weed dies off and the silvers move up into town even though mostly you struggle to find more than 4 feet depth there is a foot of fish, . The trick is how to avoid the eyes and fins size and catch the quality that is in every swim. punch and hemp were best on Sunday with pinkie catching all sorts whilst feeding copious amounts of squatt. It is a bite a cast and can be great fun.
