 Claude Smith Trophy 2009 Report

The attendance at the Claude Smith on Wednesday 12th August was even better then the previous Water Lily with12 fishing, it was a very pleasent evening and other than the millions of Kamikaze Wasps all was serene and calm until the 12 individuals kicked off at the start and then lots of water was displaced and lots of foam created due to the thrashing of various whips, rods and poles.

The fishing was ok in general with a few Roach and Rudd showing plus the ever willing Perch, the winner oif the 11 to 12 age groups was Holly Sparks whose brother also won a section of the Water Lily cup this year, obviously its a family thing, she recorded 1lb 4 1/2 oz with Daniel Wing second weighing 6 1/2 oz with Jacob Johnson and Daniel Chapman in 3rd and 4th place respectively.

In the 13 to 15 age group our very own Tom "I'm not a miner" Myring managed 1st place after he decided to fish at distance with lots of lose feed maggot going in for a weight of 1lb 1/2oz with Lewis Brant 2nd with12oz and George Davies and Scott Anderson filling the next 2 spots.

A really good evening and many thanks again to organiser Pete Milburn and the senior anglers DNW, Senior Andrews and Mini me Myring for all the assistance and passing on of knowledge on the night. I was not completely convinced that the knowledge was not being passed from the Juniors to the Seniors in some cases, you know who you are and you should be ashamed.

Talking of ashamed I would just like to pass comment on the thieving, nasty individual who stole one of the competitors whips whilst he was attending the presentation I have only recently been made aware of this incident and be assured if the individual is traced he or she will be banned from fishing St Ives waters for a long time. Fishing is a friendly pastime and theft is totally unacceptable especially from a young lad just starting to build up his tackle.
