St Ives Fish Preservation and Angling Society is a small friendly club. The club’s main objective is to promote good fellowship among anglers, and to provide genuine sport for its members by acquiring fishing rights from owners of private waters and occupiers of land adjoining the River Ouse, by protecting fish and restocking when necessary, by reporting evidence of pollution. by prosecuting cases of illegal fishing, netting, taking undersized fish.
Believed to be one of the oldest angling societies in England, the club was founded in 1881 and its first AGM was held in the House of Lords.

The 1924 Sturgeon
Now this, dear reader, would be considered a fishy tale of epic proportions if there was not photographic proof at least of a large sturgeon, in the presence of young club member Arthur Wallace. The tale goes that this fish was shot with a 12 bore at St Ives sluice in 1924, apparently weighing 184lbs.
